Idli Manchurian

Left over idlis can be used in many ways like idli fry, idli usali/upma. This is my version of Idli Manchurian, you can fry idli pieces in oil or just put it in the microwave for 3 to 4 minutes.

Ingredients:
  • Idly(large) - 6 nos(cut into half – It is good if you keep the idlies in the fridge before cutting them)
  • Spring onions - 1/2 cup
  • Onion - 1 no (chopped)
  • Capsicum - 2(chopped)
  • Garlic pods - 2 - 3 nos (chopped)
  • Ginger - 1" piece
  • Red chilli paste /powder - 3 - 4 tsp
  • Pepper -  1 tsp
  • Soya sauce - 1 tbsp
  • Chilly sauce - 1/2 - 1 tsp
  • Tomato ketchup or tomato garlic sauce or hot and spicy sauce - 1 - 2 tbsp
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Time Required: 30 mins

Direction:
Heat the oil in a pan and deep fry the idli. Remove and cool. Completely drain the oil by plaing the fried idlis over tissue paper. (If you are diet conscious don’t want to eat the deep fries. Then you can opt for microwave idli fry.)

Heat a little oil in a pan add chopped garlic, ginger and onions. Fry until done. Add capsicum pieces and again fry for a min. Add red chili paste and sauté. Add all the other sauces and fry well. Add salt and pepper and then sauté.  Add the idli pieces and mix well, till all the pieces are coated well with masala. Mix in 3/4 of the chopped spring onions.

Serving: Garnish with the remaining chopped spring onions. Serve hot.

Note: Cut idli into cube size pieces and continue recipe as above and serve with toothpicks.
